A steep, eroded hillside becomes a sculpted sequence of outdoor rooms.

This project reimagines a challenging Denver slope as a cohesive, livable landscape where architecture, engineering, and nature work in harmony. Years of uncontrolled runoff had carved channels through the property, leaving the terrain unstable and disconnected. Through careful grading, drainage redesign, and the construction of multiple stone retaining walls, the hillside was reshaped into a series of terraces that feel both grounded and expansive.

Each level now serves a distinct purpose—lounging, dining, gathering, strolling—yet all are visually and physically connected through thoughtful circulation and material continuity. Native and xeric plantings stabilize the slopes while softening the stonework, creating a tapestry that shifts with the seasons and blends seamlessly into the borrowed mountain landscape.

A naturalistic waterfall begins above the visual crest of the hill, cascading down toward a fire‑lit terrace that anchors the lower level. Permeable paving, drip irrigation, and stormwater systems ensure the site performs sustainably, even in Colorado’s demanding climate.

What was once a problematic hillside is now a refined, resilient outdoor environment—an architectural revival shaped for everyday living, discovery, and long‑term stability.
